Video

The first column below is a list of instructional videos I have created to aid in teaching my students a variety of concepts. Please check back regularly for new videos, as this is an ongoing project.

Videos for Work/School

  • How to link to files in Dropbox: I used Jing to create this video, adding my voice-over as I recorded the video.
  • How to Create a Features Comparison Matrix: Comparing Apples to Oranges: For this video, I created a short PowerPoint presentation, and then exported the slides as JPeg images and inserted them into a Windows Live Essentials Movie Maker project. I used Audacity to record the voice-over and imported it as a WMA file.

Videos for Fun

  • What's in My Purse? I created this video for an online contest sponsored by SheSpeaks. I used my smartphone to create a simple point-and-shoot video and uploaded it to YouTube.

Additional Video Resources

The following is a list of additional resources that I have found helpful when creating my own videos.
  • Audacity Tutorials: According to their website, "Audacity® is free, open source, cross-platform software for recording and editing sounds." I like to use Audacity to record voice-overs for my instructional videos.
  • I sometimes use Windows Live Movie Maker to create my instructional videos. When using Movie Maker, it's often helpful to know what kind of files you can use when creating your videos. Check out this link for more info on adding video, images, and sound to your video projects.
  • The first time you attempt to export an Audacity file to WMA format so you can add it to a Windows Live Movie Maker project, you may get the following error message: "Properly configured FFmpeg is required to proceed: You can configure it at Preferences > Libraries." When this happened to me the first time, I was confused as to what to do next. Luckily, these instructions in the Audacity Manual helped me quickly overcome the problem.
