I love to read historical novels, but I don't know if I could ever bring myself to write one. Just imagine the amount of research that must go into writing those! And then, there's the pressure to get your facts right when sometimes the facts are already blurry to begin with. No, I think I'll stick with making up my own characters, thank you very much!
But that doesn't stop me from getting ideas for historical novels I'd like to read. The following is one of those ideas:
The Life of Molly Walsh Bannaky (Banneker?)
I first learned of this compelling figure from a children's book (pictured at right) I happened across in my public library. I brought the book home and read it, then wanted to know more. I was disappointed to learn that this picture book was the only book anyone had ever written about this historical figure.
Much has been written about Molly's illustrious grandson, Benjamin Banneker. However, I think her story is just as interesting. This would make an excellent novel! What do you think? Do you want to write this one?
